New Disabled Assistance Program Announcement

In response to the legal case we are working on in Ottumwa Iowa we realized the great need for a Service Dog training program needing to be developed to provide Pit Bulls as Service Dogs to those who are dealing with disabilities.

Over the next six months we will be working on the development of a curriculum of training that once completed will be provided to network trainer volunteers and those in the disabled population who may benefit from the use of having a Pit Bull as a service companion.

Through this program we will seek to provide individuals with disabilities free Pit Bull pups and access to a volunteer trainer to assist in the training of this pup for service work catered to meet the direct needs of that individual.

We will additionally be recruiting sponsors for this program to help provide all the necessary items for training such as harnesses, leashes, service dog backpacks, and other material useful in the training and service process.

Trainers

In order to make this program a success we will need trainers who are willing to volunteer for the cause to sign up from around the world. If you are a trainer (or know of a trainer) and would like to participate in this program you can provide us with your information and we would be happy to place you in our trainer Network. In return for this volunteer assistance we will provide you a free listing through our Web sites as well as make direct referrals to you of individuals in your area who need training assistance.  Requests for trainers and training information is one of the greatest requests we receive at the American Pit Bull Registry. Receiving between 3-4 Million hits per month on our Web sites can offer trainers in our Network and excellent opportunity at gaining new clients.

Breeders, Rescues, and Shelters

We need your assistance to make this program a success also. We need Pit Bull puppies to be donated to the program for use by individuals with disabilities. We are looking for Pit pups that are pure bred and between 3-6 weeks old. These pups will begin their relationship through visits with the disabled recipient at this early age to help promote a strong bonding relationship.

Individual Volunteers as Transitional Care Providers

During the first couple of months we will need individuals to volunteer to provide transitional care for Pit pups. This will involve caring for the pup through a transition phase, taking part in care visits with the disabled recipient and assisting with puppy cleanups and socialization as well as working with the volunteer trainer to coordinate training activities and practice and reinforce training.

Merchants, Sponsors and Donors

There are costs involved in providing the necessary equipment to promote Service Dog training. Such equipment as harnesses, backpacks, leashes, bedding, pee pads, dog toys, rewards, and even food. We would like to make the cost of owning a Service Pit as minimal as possible. If donations of these items or financial donations for their purchase can be made we would greatly appreciate such. Placement of logos to show your support are welcomed and other marketing opportunities acknowledging your support can be provided upon approval.

Disabled Individuals

If you can benefit from a Pit Bull service companion we would be happy to sign you up and let you know when the appropriate network of individuals are available in your area.

If you are a disabled individual, trainer, breeder, rescue, shelter, merchant, potential sponsor, or individual willing to take part in this program please let us know by signing up on the following form.
